LESLIE NORBERT, a 16-year-old visual arts student of the Barbados Community College, is Barbados' latest drowning victim.
He died while swimming at Rockley Beach, Christ Church, on Tuesday around 3:50 p.m. after experiencing
"It is rough. He was my only child and he was a very loving child."
He was just over by me last Saturday and he said now he was on vacation, he wanted to spend more time difficulties.
The avid swimmer left his Chancery Lane, Christ Church home to go to the beach with a friend, Julian Moseley, of Gibbons Boggs, in the same parish.
When his friend realised he was having trouble, he tried to save him but it was too late.
His father, Innocent Norbert, and mother, Sylvia Norbert, were grieving the loss of the former Deighton Griffith Secondary School student when a DAILY NATION team visited them yesterday.
Sylvia had to be placed on tranquilisers after hearing the news while Innocent tried to handle his son's death as best as he could.
Innocent said his son narrowly escaped death nearly a year ago when he passed up a ride with three of his "buddies" and schoolmates – Dwayne Miguel Michaud and Shane Hayden Downes, both 17, and Alex Everette Jordan, 16, who all died in an accident on the ABC Highway.
